SRINAGAR, July 22: Amid reports of incursion by Chinese troops in Ladakh region recently, Governor N N Vohra today took stock of the situation relating to Leh and Srinagar airbases in the State.
The Governor was briefed by Air Commodore B Balachandran, Air Officer Commanding (AOC) Air Force Station (AFS), Srinagar.
The Governor was informed about IAF’s initiatives in further securing the frontiers and issues relating to the Leh and Srinagar airbases.
The Governor lauded the crucial efforts of the Indian Air Force in the Western Sector besides providing valuable support in carrying out rescue, relief and evacuation operations and enabling the civil authorities to deal with emergencies and natural calamities.
Peoples Democrat Party (PDP) member of the State Legislative Assembly Nizam-ud-Din Bhat also called on the Governor here today and apprised him of various problems and development needs of his area, the sources said.
The issues raised by Mr Bhat included, inter alia, Bandipore district being brought under the Border Area Development Programme and provision of more funds for the district under Tribal Sub-Plan.
He also informed him about widening and upgradation of Srinagar-Bandipore-Gurez road, expeditious up-gradation of Bandipore-Sopore road, construction of hospital building at Bandipore and other infrastructure development projects in the district and the speedy implementation of social security schemes and programmes in the area.
The Governor and Mr Bhat also discussed issues relating to the importance of ensuring the integrity and functional efficiency of public institutions.
Dr Shehnaz Ganai, Member of the State Legislative Council also called on Mr Vohra and presented him a Memorandum of development-related demands of Poonch and Rajouri districts urging for launch of special drives for the recruitment of youth from Rajouri and Poonch districts in the Central Para-Military Forces, creation of facilities for the pilgrims visiting Amarnath Shrine and speedy implementation of socio-economic development schemes.
Ex-minister Bashir Ahmad Nengroo, who also called on the Governor, discussed with him issues relating to the rapid economic advancement of his area and the implementation of major welfare and development schemes and programmes. (AGENCIES)
