SRINAGAR:
More than one lakh pilgrims had paid obeisance to the self made Ice-Shivlingam in the Amarnath Cave, situated at 13,500 feet in south Kashmir Himalayas since the commencement of the 59-day-long pilgrimage from July 2.
This information was given to Governor N N Vohra, who is also chairman of the Shri Amarnath Shrine Board (SASB) during a meeting at the Raj Bhavan here today. The meeting held under the chairmanship of Mr Vohra was called to review arrangements for the ongoing Yatra .
Chief Executive Officer (CEO) PK Tripathi and other SASB officers briefed the Governor about the to-date position regarding the on-ground arrangements made by the various concerned State Government departments, and other agencies.
The CEO and the Additional CEO have been interacting daily with the officials of all the agencies engaged in the conduct of Yatra and particularly enquiring about the arrangements at the Shrine and at all the Yatra Camps. At the end of the day, the CEO furnishes a detailed report, on all counts, to the Chairman.
During the meeting, the CEO informed the Governor that the arrangements in regard to Sanitation, Water and Power Supply, Medical Units, Langars, availability of essential commodities like ration and LPG, accommodation for the Yatris at Camps and functioning of MRTs had been satisfactory in the past seven days, despite some initial hiccups.
