KATRA, Mar 1: N. N. Vohra, Governor today visited Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University (SMVDU) at Kakryal and reviewed the progress of the various ongoing infrastructure development projects.
The Governor, who is Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board and Chancellor of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi University, inspected the upcoming buildings of Vaishnavi Girls Hostel, Residential Block for University Faculty and Basohli Boys Hostel.
While reviewing the on-ground status of these projects, he urged Dr. Sudhir K. Jain, Vice Chancellor of the University, who was present on the occasion, to speed up the execution of these buildings and to have them ready before the next admissions in the University take place. He also emphasized the need for the Master Plan of the University being urgently reviewed and modified to meet the rising requirements for adding new academic programmes in the institution. He stressed the need of ensuring extremely judicious use of the available land resources.
Referring to the requirements of hostel accommodation, for both boys and girls, the Governor emphasized the need for commencing work to build more hostels for meeting the growing intake of students in the coming years. He urged the Vice Chancellor to ensure the provision of adequate common room recreational facilities for the students.
After completing his round of the University, the Governor visited the upcoming Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Institute of Medical Excellence and reviewed the to-date construction status of 9 residential blocks in the complex which are being constructed at an estimated cost of about Rs. 51 crore.
These buildings are Dhanvantri Bhawan and Aayush Bhawan (Senior Resident Doctors’ Accommodation), Ashvin Bhawan (Doctors’ Hostel), Nivedita Bhawan (Nurses’ Hostel), Sushruta Bhawan (Accommodation for Ancillary Staff), Charak Bhawan (Class-IV Accommodation), Aarogya Bhawan (Patients’ Inn), Aashray Bhawan (Dharamshala for attendants of patients) and Sanjeevani Bhawan (Guest House).
The Governor issued instructions for simultaneous work being done for installation of solar energy, rain water harvesting and plantation of suitable trees and flowering bushes in the entire SMVDIME area, particularly to green the area in which the hill side had been cut for the construction of guest house.

Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor; Dr. Mandeep K. Bhandari, Chief Executive Officer, SMVDSB, Vivek Gupta, SP Reasi; Rajinder Singh Tara, Additional Deputy Commissioner, Reasi and officers of the University and the Shrine Board were present on the occasion.
