JAMMU: Governor N.N. Vohra released “A Saga of Colourful Tribe: Gujjars and Bakkerwals”, written by Dr. S.P. Vaid, at the Raj Bhavan here.
This well researched volume traces the origin and historical background of the Gujjars and the Bakkerwals and their socio-economic profile, the interrelationship between Gujjars and the Paharies, differences between the Gujjars and the Bakkerwals and the state government’s policies towards the tribal community and the political aspirations and demands of the Gujjars and the Bakkerwals in J&K which are still to be met.
Governor complimented the author for writing a well researched and analytical work on a community which constitutes an important segment of J&K’s population and observed that this book should be of great value to the policy makers, planners and to students and scholars who undertake socio-economic research on tribal communities.
Sh. I.D. Soni, Commissioner Scouts and Guides, gave a brief introduction of the book and the author, Dr. Vaid, spoke briefly about the objective of his work.
