JAMMU, Feb 15: Governor N. N. Vohra, has lauded the valuable contribution which the Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts has made in bringing music to the masses and showcasing J&K’s rich cultural heritage across the country and abroad.
The Governor was speaking at the valedictory function of the SaMaPa Aalap Festivel organized by the Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts, at the Jodhamal Public School, here today.
The Governor observed that he has witnessed the performances of both Pandit Bhajan Sopori and Abhay Rustum Sopori in the past but today’s participative musical performance by Pandit Bhajan Sopori was altogether outstanding and enchanting as a large number of young school children sang with him.
The Governor said that Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board has been supporting the Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts in its initiatives of taking music to the masses by organizing various music festivals. He said that the Shrine Board has decided that whenever SaMaPa Aalap Festival is to held in Jammu, the Board will organize one musical concert at its Spiritual Growth Centre at Katra for the benefit of the pilgrims and people of Katra and its surrounding areas.
The Governor felicitated Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Mrs Sopori, Abhay Rustum Sopori, Dr. S. P. Vaid, Additional Director General of Police, Bharati Vaid, Media Advisor to J&K Government and Navin K. Choudhary, Principal Secretary to the Governor, by presenting to them shawls and mementos.
Pandit Bhajan Sopori, Chairman, Sopori Academy of Music and Performing Arts, presented a soulful Santoor recital on this occasion.
T.S. Bisht, Principal, Jodhamal Public School delivered welcome address.
Abhay Rustum Sopori, Secretary of the Academy, speaking on the occasion, said that during the 15-day Music Festival 35 concerts were organized at more than 20 venues.
