Governor inspects SMVD College of Nursing, reviews functioning of Super Speciality Hospital

KAKRYAL, Dec 20: Governor N. N. Vohra, Chairman of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board, visited the College of Nursing established by the Shrine Board at Kakryal today and took stock of its functioning. He was accompanied by H. L. Maini Member of the Board and Maj. Gen. (Retd) Shiv Kumar Sharma, Member of the Shrine Board and Chairman of the Governing Body of the College of Nursing, Ajeet Kumar Sahu, CEO and Dr. M. K. Kumar, Additional CEO of the Board.
The Governor visited the various departments of the College and interacted with Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Administrator, Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal and Faculty of the College regarding the functioning of the institution. He was informed that the College has completed its first semester this month and the second semester will start in January 2017.
The Governor underscored the need for providing nursing education of the highest standard to the students so that they make a mark in their future careers.
The Governor directed A. K. Sahu, CEO of the Shrine Board, to ensure very early finalization of the Master Plan of the area adjoining the Super Speciality Hospital for establishing autonomous complexes of College of Nursing and, later, for the proposed establishment of the Medical College.
In this context, he asked the CEO to ensure that work to finalise the projected Master Plan, which is being prepared by the School of Architecture, New Delhi, is finalized well within the agreed time frame.
Meanwhile, Governor reviewed the functioning of the Super Speciality Hospital.
He went around various departments of the hospital and observed the functioning of hi-end equipments and various critical care units among which were Linear Accelerator, Brachytherapy, Endoscopy, Oncology OPD, CSSD, Bone Marrow Transplant, Intensive Thoracic Unit, Medical ICU, Neuro-ICU, Post-Operative Ward, Cardiac Sciences OPD, IPD and Hospital Kitchen. He interacted with the doctors, paramedics and other staff of the hospital, patients and their attendants.
The Governor was briefed about the hospital functioning by Sunil Kumar CN, CEO of the SMVDNSH and Zonal Head NH and Dr. (Brig) Man Mohan Harjai, Chief Administrative Officer of the Hospital. The Governor was informed that reputed Consultants of other NH Hospitals are regularly visiting the Superspeciality Hospital Kakryal for the benefit of the patients.
Besides, more Consultants are being added in various disciplines to meet the emerging requirements. The Governor also discussed the data of the hospital functioning and was happy to learn that since it became operational, on 8th April 2016, the hospital has treated over 51,000 patients and that nearly 1100 major surgeries have been performed which include: 58 Heart Surgery; 53 Neuro Surgery; 233 Gastro; 129 Cancer; 241 Ortho and 379 others. Besides, 209 Coronary Angiographies; 50 Angioplasty have been performed. Side by side the doctors have held 57 Outreach Camps in which nearly 11,000 patients were screened and 1550 referred for treatment.
The Governor also visited other ongoing works in hospital complex, including Police Post and other facilities.
While inspecting the ongoing work on Additional Nurses Hostel, the Governor directed the CEO for redoubling efforts to complete this building as per the envisaged timeline.
With regard to the preparation of Master Plan for establishing complexes for Nursing College and Medical College, the CEO informed that School of Planning and Architecture shall commence the work very soon.
