SRINAGAR, Aug 5: N.N. Vohra, Governor, inaugurated an art exhibition, titled “To Our Roots” at Delhi Public School (DPS), Srinagar. Usha Vohra, First Lady, was present on the occasion.
The exhibition formed part of an interactive workshop initiated by Veer Munshi Art Initiative and supported by the D.P. Dhar Memorial Trust. The artists, whose paintings were exhibited, described their works of art to the Governor.
The Governor complimented Vijay Dhar and Veer Munshi for organizing an Artists Camp and selecting a theme which reflects the feelings and sentiments of Kashmiri Pandit community which longs to return to its roots. The Governor also complimented all the participating artists for their valued contribution during their stay at the camp.
Observing that art mirrors the culture, traditions and history of a country, Governor focused that these paintings should find a place in the art galleries in the State. He noted that if civilisational goals are to be furthered, successive Governments and the civil society must play a larger role in supporting and patronising art and culture.
The Governor noted that such Artist Camps would also attract and involve students and teachers in future.
The Governor, on the occasion, distributed certificates to the participating artists including Veer Munshi; Bhushan Koul; M.K. Bhat; A.K. Raina; Gokul Dembi; Masood Hussain; Shabbir Mirza; Rajinder Tikoo; Aftab Ahmad; Ms. Shaiqa Mohi; Zargar Zahoor; Lalit Gupta; M.A. Mehboob; Shama Sondhi and Vijay Saraf.
Mrs. and Mr. Vijay Dhar, Chairman DPS and a large number of distinguished guests were present on the occasion.
