Rangla Jammu: Scintillating fusion of State’s vibrant composite culture

JAMMU, Apr 22: More than 125 folk artistes attired in their colorful costumes, gave a scintillating presentation of J&K vibrant composite cultural heritage in music and dance bonanza ‘Rangla Jammu’, at the jam-packed Zorawar Singh Auditorium, Jammu University, here this evening.
Designed and conceived by Balwant Thakur and Natrang, and organized by Jammu and Kashmir Department of Tourism, the program emerged as an artistically choreographed performance of the leading folk cultural expressions from Jammu region along with that of Kashmir and Ladakh regions of the State.
The performances by master artistes like Gulam Mohammad, Pradumanyan Singh, Krishna Kumari, energetic young dancers reciting folk songs and dances related to important ceremonies from birth to marriage, and enactment of historic personages, woven in a continuous unfolding of sequences linked by a duo of narrators, was the highlight of the mega cultural show, which kept the audience spell bound all along.
N. N. Vohra, Governor, the chief guest of the function, in his address emphasized the crucial importance of timely conservation and the promotion of the traditional folk art forms and the rich cultural heritage of the State.
Usha Vohra, First Lady, Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism and Culture, Mubarak Gul, Advisor to the Chief Minister, Nasir Aslam Wani, Minister of State for Tourism and Home, Prof. M. P. S. Ishar, Vice Chancellor, Jammu University, Atal Dulloo, Commissioner/Secretary, Tourism, Balwant Thakur, Director, Natrang, eminent members of civil society, and a large number of senior officers were among those present on the occasion.
The Governor observed that folk art and culture in all its forms is an important aspect of any civilization, adding that all the required measures need to be taken for the aesthetic revival and effective showcasing of this invaluable heritage before it gets eroded and obliterated with the passage of time. He said that J&K is blessed with a glorious composite cultural heritage, which must be preserved and promoted.
Referring to the organizing of “Rangla Jammu”, the Governor observed that this presentation focuses on the variegated cultural heritage of Jammu and congratulated the Tourism Department and Balwant Thakur, Director Natrang, for such a scintillating fusion.
Nawang Rigzin Jora, Minister for Tourism and Culture, speaking on the occasion, He said that such programmes are being organized by the Tourism Department and the Jammu and Kashmir State Academy of Art, Culture and Languages in the various parts of the State with a view to showcase the rich cultural heritage of the three regions of the State. He said that the main focus of “Rangla Jammu” is to showcase the cultural heritage of Jammu region.
Nasir Aslam Wani, Minister of State for Tourism and Home, said that in the past several months many initiatives had been taken by the Department for the promotion of cultural activities in the State. The programme was duly conducted by Maitali Gupta
