“When we talk of prudence, the concern of politicians should be to discharge the duties towards people who have brought them to power. But this is the factor, which is not seen in our Governments today,” he said while delivering presidential address in a function in connection with Mufti Mohammad Sayeed Commemoration Day, here today.
State Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, Bihar Chief Minister Nitish Kumar, Bihar Deputy Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Modi, State Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh and Indian-origin British politician Lord Meghnad Desai were present on the occasion.
Maintaining that the Government need to work dutifully, in a transparent and accountable manner for achieving the goals in an equitable and inclusive manner, the Governor said that slackness on the part of the administrative machinery was adversely affecting the efforts to ameliorate a lot of the disadvantaged sections of the society.
He also expressed his displeasure over frequent disruptions in studies, academic calendars, examination schedule etc and stressed that need of the hour was to devote maximum care for promoting the interests of youth. “No one should be allowed to disrupt their studies and hamper their careers,” he said in apparent reference of frequent calls for bandhs and failure of the institutions to ensure timely conduct of exams.
Observing that the J&K has suffered on varied counts because of domestic and external factors which have been detrimental to the State’s progress and development, Vohra stressed that “we should firmly resolve to negate these factors and work collectively towards achieving our goals.”
Paying tributes to Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, the Governor recalled his long association with the former Chief Minister since Mufti Sayeed took over as Union Home Minister. He described Mufti Sayeed as a man who was entirely devoted to advancing the welfare of his people and development of the State.
Citing some episodes during his frequent interactions with Mufti Sayeed when the latter was Chief Minister of J&K, the Governor observed that one of his convictions was his yearning for advancing public good and his sustained and uncommon eagerness to closely follow up on the implementation of development works.
He stressed that all the Governments need to work dutifully, in a transparent and accountable manner, and achieve their goals in an equitable and inclusive manner. “We need to take firm resolve in the new year for being transparent, sincere and work dutifully to deliver to our people,” he said adding that probity and prudence have to be essential component of entire society, including polity and people.
