Governor approves issuance of notifications for Assy polls

SRINAGAR, Oct 27: Two days after Election Commission (EC) announced the dates to hold five-phase polls in Jammu and Kashmir, Governor N N Vohra approved issuance of notifications for conduct of general elections to the state Legislative Assembly.
An official spokesperson said as recommended by the Chief Election Commission of India, Mr Vohra approved the issuance of the notifications for the conduct of General Elections to Jammu and Kashmir Legislative Assembly.
The notification for the first phase of election will be issued tomorrow. In the first phase, election would be held in 15 Assembly constituencies of  Gurez,  Bandipora, Sonawari, Kangan,  Ganderbal in  Kashmir valley;  Nobra, Leh,  Kargil, Zanskar in Ladakh region and Kishtwar, Inderwal,  Doda, Bhaderwah,  Ramban (SC) and  Banihal in Jammu division.
The EC in a press conference in Delhi held on October 15 announced that the Assembly elections for Jammu and Kashmir, which is to be conducted in five-phases, will start on November 25 and end on December 20. Meanwhile, the counting will be done on December 23.
In Jammu and Kashmir, which was recently hit by floods, 10,015 polling booths most of which are hyper sensitive and sensitive, will be set up. (Agencies)
