JAMMU, Sept 23: In a significant development, the State Government has restored the prestigious DAV Institute, Jawahar Nagar to its original Management Committee.
The institute was encroached by some elements in the Valley soon after the mass exodus of minority Hindus from there and the Management Committee of the Institute had taken the issue to the Court of Law. After the State High Court ordered the restoration of the Institute to the Management Committee on October 24, 2011, the Government could not enforce the Court order for about two years.
However continuing its efforts and with the personal interest taken by the Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand and some Congress leaders including Vinod Sharma, general secretary of the Party, the school was restored to the management on September 17.
The DAV Institute which was one of the prime educational institutes in Kashmir is run on the name of Swami Deanna Saraswati, the founder of Arya Samaj – a great social reformer and visionary who revolutionized the Hindu Samaj and launched a crusade against the social evils prevalent in the society including Sati and fought for remarriage of widows.
The School which was founded in 1936 was among the leading educational institutions of Kashmir till the mass exodus of the Pandits in Valley and it was topping in the merit list every year in the annual examinations.
The foundation of new School at Jawahar Nagar was laid by ex Principal Pt Radha Krishan Ganjoo and other leading educationists of that time in 1971.
The DAV School Management Committee has complimented the Tara Chand, Deputy Chief Minister, Surinder Singh Chani Ex MLC, Hridesh Kumar, Secretary School Education, Mir Tariq Ali Director School Education Kashmir, Mohammed Akbar Dar and Mr Inqalabi for their efforts in restoring the minority institute to its Management Committee.
The Committee in its meeting on September 29 will discuss the affairs of Arya Samaj Wazir Bagh and D A V Institute Jawahar Nagar. This was stated in a handout issued by the Committee here today.
