JAMMU, June 28: The 33rd Governing Body meeting of the Shri Mata Vaishno Devi College of Nursing (SMVDCoN), Kakryal, which was held today, discussed the plan of activities and the modalities for starting M. Sc. Nursing Programme in the college by 2020.
This will be as part of the 10-year Vision Plan which has been formulated, interalia, for developing SMVDCoN as a pioneering institution in imparting top quality nursing education from Under-Graduate to Ph. D. level. The GB opined that to begin with, the M. Sc. Programme should be started in three specialities which have wider scope for employment in health care.
With a view to enhancing the prospects of suitable placements of the passing-out students of the college, the GB discussed various pre-placement activities to be organised to prepare them for placement events. These included organising campus and skype interviews, grooming and training of students, group discussions, various tests etc besides inviting corporate hospitals and recruiters for campus placements. In this context, the GB constituted a Placement Cell for the college.
The GB also emphasised the need for exploring the possibilities of arranging internship for the students in the leading health institutions in the country so that they gain maximum experience and expertise besides the training for securing the best possible placements in the health care sector.
The Governing Body meeting was, chaired by Maj. Gen. S. K. Sharma (Retd), Member Shrine Board; and attended by Simrandeep Singh, Chief Executive Officer, Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine Board; Dr. V. Verma, Dean, SMVDU; Dr. (Brig) M. M. Harjai, Administrator, SMVDCoN; Dr. J. P. Singh, Senior Consultant, Neuro Surgery, SMVDNSH; and Dr. Shailla Cannie, Principal of the College, also discussed the Academic Calendar and Calendar of Events of the Nursing College for the Session 2019-20.
While reviewing the selection of candidates for admission for the Fourth Batch of the 4 year B. Sc. Nursing Course at the SMVDCoN, the GB was apprised that the process has been completed and classes for the Fourth Batch (2019-20) will start shortly.
The GB also took stock of the to-date status of construction of infrastructure of the SMVDCoN, and was informed that two hostel blocks comprising 96 rooms with a capacity for accommodating 3 students in each room and two residential blocks for faculty and staff of the Nursing College will come up as per the envisaged timelines.
