Goldsmith escapes bid on life

Srinagar, Oct 19: India and Pakistani troops exchanged mortar shelling in Uri along Line of Control (LoC) in Hajipeer sector since this afternoon while a goldsmith escaped bid on life in Baramulla town of North Kashmir.
The firing started after Pakistan violated ceasefire by targeting forward posts of Rustum and Pika in Hajipeer sector this afternoon. Army also retaliated and shelling from both the sides was going on. However, there were no reports of loss of life or damage to posts.
Uri has witnessed frequent shelling since August 5 this year between Army and Pakistani troops. Several houses were damaged in this sector and dozens of families shifted from the area. There were few casualties including those of the Army in North Kashmir during this period.

The villages of Dulanja, Batar, Mariyan, Kamalkote, Chakra, Isham, Mothal, Silikote, Hathlanaga, Balkote, Tilawari, Chotali, Sumawali, Maidanan, Gagarhill, Tilawari, Churanda and Banali have been affected in recent shelling. Over three dozen houses were damaged in the shelling so far since August.
In the meantime, a goldsmith escaped bid on his life when militants fired at him in North Kashmir’s Baramulla town this afternoon.
Militants at around 3. 30 p.m fired three bullets at Mohammad Ibrahim, a goldsmith and owner of Al-Fajar, at Kanispora in Baramulla town. The bullets missed him and hit the adjacent wall of the shop. The militants fled after firing at the goldsmith.
Police and para-military security forces immediately reached the spot to assess the situation. They cordoned off the area but no one was arrested.
