GoI team assesses damage on Day 2

JAMMU, May 27: A high level Central team today visited various parts of Kishtwar district and had aerial survey of upper reaches including Dachchan to assess the damage caused by May 1 earthquake. The team had yesterday conducted extensive tour of Doda district.
Led by Bhagwan Shankar, Joint Secretary, Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) and comprising B L Meena, Assistant Director Expenditure, Union Ministry of Finance, B K Singh, Under Secretary, Union Ministry of Rural Development Department and Jugal Kishore Sharma, Deputy Advisor, Planning Commission of India, today visited Beda Batta and Udri areas in Kishtwar town, Palmar and Gallarh in the town’s outskirts and conducted aerial survey of Dachchan to assess damage caused to public and Government property in the earthquake followed by aftershocks that lasted over a fortnight.
After the extensive tour, the team held a meeting with the district officers and took appraisal of damage caused to houses, commercial establishments and Government property.
The team would return to New Delhi tomorrow and submit its report to the Government of India on compensation sought by the State Government worth Rs 607 crores for earthquake victims and restoration of damaged infrastructure in Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts.
