UDHAMPUR, Apr 7: Protesting against the Government of restricting civil traffic on Jammu-Srinagar National Highway for safe passage of security forces convoy, JKNPP president and former MLA Balwant Singh Mankotia today accused the Union Home Ministry of befooling public on issuing order of airlifting forces.
“Following Pulwama incident, the Union Home Ministry had issued an order, according to which the Army/security forces had to be shifted by air but the same has not been implemented till now and the forces are still being shifted by road thus risking their lives,” Mankotia said and sought clarification on fate of earlier order.
Demanding implementation of earlier order on airlifting the forces, Mankotia explained that restricting civil traffic on the National Highway was causing hardships to the general public. The decision is problematic for patients and students, he added and warned strong protests if the controversial order on restricting traffic is not revoked soon.
Mankotia also condemned the increase in Udhampur to Jammu toll charges. He said general public is facing many problems due to it as such a huge amount of Rs 200 is not charged at any other toll plaza. Mankotia demanded decrease in the toll and warned of strong protest.
Scores of activists were also present during the protest.
