JAMMU, Sept 24: Orthopedics department of GMC Jammu, in association with Department of Anatomy & Anesthesia conducted an educational course on total hip replacement surgeries under the aegis of Jammu Kashmir Ortho Association (JKOA) The course was conducted under the patronship of Dr. Shashi Sudhan Sharma. Principal and Dean GMC Jammu and also inaugurated the workshop.
The event was chaired by Dr. Sanjeev Gupta, Professor and HoD Orthopaedics GMC Jammu. Dr Anju Jamwal. Professor and HoD Anesthesia GMC Jammu and Dr. Sangeeta Gupta. Professor & HOD Anatomy GMC Jammu were the co-chair persons of the event. Dr. Abdul Ghani, Professor & HOU Orthopaedics GMC Jammu was the organizing secretary of the event.
The event started with a series of talks by Dr Bias Dev, Dr Tahir Afzal, Dr Rakesh Rajput, Dr Shubam Aggarwal, Dr Rajeev Sharma, Dr Sanjeev Gupta. Dr Nikunj & Dr Abdul Ghani eminent Orthopaedics surgeons who explained regarding various aspects of hip replacement surgery.
Two live hip replacement surgeries were conducted and delegates interacted with operating surgeons about tips & tricks of surgery. Dr Rajeev K Sharma, President of Indian Arthroplasty Association from Delhi and Dr Rakesh Rajput, convener from Kolkata President APASI conducted the live surgeries. Brig Barun Dutta and Col. Gaurav Mittal from Command Hospital Udhampur, Dr Vikas Padha. consultant Narayan Hospital. Prof Rajesh Gupta HoD Ortho ASCOMS, Dr Nikunj Aggarwal from Max Hospital Delhi and Dr Shubhang Aggarwal from Jalandhar were the trainers in the cadaveric & saw bone workshop. In her inaugural address Prof Shashi Sudhan Sharma, Principal & Dean, GMC lauded the efforts of the Department & Complemented the Department for exceptional number of joint replacement surgeries being done in GMC. Also she lauded the efforts of the Department of Orthopedics, Department of Anesthesia & Department of Anatomy in coming together for training doctors. Dr ADS Manhas. MS GMC & Ashwani Khajuria Administrator were also present in the inaugural function. Dr Rehana, Dy MS; Dr Bharat Bhushan, Dr Kailash Thakur & Matron Tripta also attended.
Dr Anju, Prof. & HoD Anaesthesia provided all logistics from Anaesthesia Departrnnent. Anaesthesia to patients was given by Prof. Rajesh Mahajan ; Dr Arti Mahajan. Dr Shruti Gupta and team. Dr. Sangeeta Gupta, Prof & Head Anatomy was convener of the cadaveric workshop. In the afternoon participants of the course did surgeries on the cadavers to get hands on experience of surgery. Also saw bone models training was conducted.
Dr Shashi Sudhan Sharma while speaking on the occasion congratulated the organizers for organizing the live cadaveric workshop and expressed happiness that the department of orthopaedics is moving ahead as a cohesive unit and performing all types of surgeries including hip & knee replacements, spine surgeries, arthroscopic surgeries etc. She added that many patients from outside JKUT and other private hospital come for treatment in GMC Jammu. She further said that with the upcoming Bone & Joint Hospitals in GMC Jammu the services of Department of Orthopaedics shall further get enhanced & GMC Jammu is working towards the aim of zero Orthopaedics referral.
