GMC Jammu Oncology Deptt gets AERB approval for newly installed Radiotherapy Simulator

JAMMU, Feb 1: In a big achievement for Oncology Department of Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu, state of art Radiation Simulator has been granted approval for commissioning after successful installation by Atomic Energy Regulatory Board (AERB).
This new ultra-modern Radiation equipment will be a shot in arm to treat cancer patients in GMC Jammu. This Radiation Equipment worth Rs 3 crores has been funded by grant received from Government of India for establishment of State Cancer Institute.
Dr Ashutosh Gupta, Professor and Head, Regional Cancer Center and Nodal Officer for establishment of State Cancer Institute stated that successful installation of Radiation Simulator is a first step in establishment of State Cancer Institute at GMC Jammu. He said, “With successful installation of this equipment, our Radiation treatment will become very precise and accurate”.
He further stated that construction of State Cancer Institute is in full swing. “The civil infrastructure is likely to be completed by mid 2022. Also, procurement of ultra-modern equipments like high energy Linear, PET Scan, High dose rate Brachytherapy, modular operation theatres etc is also being undertaken on fast track basis,” he added.
“Oncology staff, both faculty and paramedical, has been providing uninterrupted services to cancer patients since the beginning of the pandemic. Never there was a period when Radiation or Chemotherapy services were stopped. Even when most of the staff members were infected with COVID at different times, the Oncology services in GMC continued uninterrupted,” Dr Gupta added.
He said that no patient was ever refused cancer treatment during the pandemic period which clearly reflects the dedication of Oncology staff towards their cancer patients. Dr Gupta further stated that with successful implementation of Ayushman Bharat scheme, all cancer related treatment is being provided free of cost to the patients.
