JAMMU, Apr 13: Directorate General of Health Services (DGHS), Union Ministry of Health & Family Welfare today granted registration to Government Medical College Jammu (GMC-J) for its Renal Transplant Facility.
“This is to certify that Government Medical College, Jammu has been inspected and certificate of registration is granted for Renal Transplantation facilities under the Transplantation of Human Organs Act & Tissues Act, 1994. The registration is valid for a period of five years from the date of issue,” reads the certificate of registration issued by the DGHS.
In August last year, the GMC Jammu applied had for registration of its Renal Transplant Facility and accordingly, a DGHS team visited the Facility on March 25 this year and inspected the transplant facility in the Department of Urology and Nephrology in SSH Jammu including ICUs, operation theatres and wards, besides laboratories and radio-diagnostic facilities.
With certificate of registration granted to the Facility, the patients with Chronic Kidney Disease (CKD) would be greatly benefitted as they don’t have to travel outside Jammu & Kashmir for getting Kidney Transplant.
“Now, patients in need of a Kidney Transplantation can register themselves with this institute or State Organ and Tissue Transplantation Organization (SOTTO) J&K and soon, we will perform live kidney transplantation,” said a senior doctor of the Urology Department, GMC Jammu.
