JAMMU, Aug 24: Social Activist, S. Balvinder Singh has flayed the Government Medical College (GMC) Jammu for not starting convalescent plasma therapy for critically sick COVID positive cases till date.
In a handout Singh said that COVID-19 has been declared as pandemic for which there is no drug or vaccine available as of now.
“Till the vaccine is invented, only ray of hope in this regard seems convalescent plasma in COVID-19 patients,” he said adding that convalescent plasma may reduce mortality in critically ill patients.
He further said that as per limited scientific data, CPT therapy in COVID-19 patients appears safe, clinically effective and reduces mortality.
“Plasma could be donated by any person who has recovered from COVID-19 after being tested negative. This is transfer of readymade immunity against the deadly virus in patients suffering from COVID-19 who are sick or critical,” he claimed.
Singh said, in a major achievement, Sher-e-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) Soura, a COVID designated hospital in Srinagar, has conducted its first successful plasma therapy on COVID infected patients.
He said that GMC Jammu though having advanced blood bank and Plasma Bank, fully functional with fully trained personnel, the convalescent plasma therapy could not be started for critically sick patients of COVID-19 who could be saved otherwise.
