SRINAGAR, Apr 29: The Department of Gynaecology and Obstetrics at Associated Hospital, Government Medical College, Baramulla, has successfully performed the first-ever total laparoscopic hysterectomy procedure on a 50-year-old female patient.
According to a hand-out issued by GMC, the patient was suffering from postmenopausal ovarian cyst with abnormal uterine bleeding (AUB), a condition traditionally managed through open methods requiring large abdominal incisions.
Under the leadership of Chief Operating Surgeon Dr. Mudasir Ahmad, Consultant Gynaecologist, the procedure was conducted using only four small incisions in the abdomen, marking a significant advancement in minimally invasive surgical techniques.
“Dr. Mudasir and his team undertook this complex and demanding challenge head-on, aiming to minimize the risk of complications associated with open surgeries,” GMC said.
The four-hour procedure proceeded seamlessly, with an uneventful intraoperative period, and the patient is currently recovering well.
The team extends gratitude to Medical Superintendent Hospital GMC Baramulla Dr. Parvaiz Masoodi for his support and encouragement throughout this endeavor.
Officials highlighted that equipped with state-of-the-art technology and advanced equipment, GMC Baramulla is committed to leveraging its resources for the benefit of patients.
The team involved in the procedure included Dr. Mudasir Ahmad, Consultant Gynaecologist, O.T. Assistants: Hameed, Maroof, Misra; Anesthesia Team, Waim Salman, Associate Professor, Dr. Arshid, Senior Resident, and Muzaffer, Anaesthetic Technician.
