JAMMU, May 1: Though due to nationwide lockdown no formal function was held anywhere, rich tributes were paid to martyr Sarwanand Kaul Premi a renowned writer, freedom fighter and scholar and his son, Virender Koul on their 31st martyrdom day today by Peer Panchal through a special programme organized by Radio Sharda through video conferencing.
The Kashmiri Pandit scholars, friends and associates of late Premi from different parts of country joined the programme and paid glowing tributes to late scholar and his son who were martyred by terrorists after being kidnapped on April 30 night from their residence in Soaf Shali village in Kokernag Tehsil of Anantnag district and their dead bodies were thrown after torture on a road side in outskirts of Anantnag town.
The tribute giving programme was organized by Pir Panchal president and Director Radio Sharda, Ramesh Hangloo and people who joined this special programme through video conferencing from different parts of country included, Swami Kumar Ji of Geeta Satsang Ashram, Rajinder Premi son of late scholar, Kundan Kashmiri, president KPC, Bihari Kak and Jai Krishan well known artists, Vijay Koul etc.
They, while recalling the role of late Premi said he was a true secularist who always championed for Hindu -Muslim unity in Kashmir and for this he became an eye sore among the Jehadis and anti national elements as Premi launched a campaign against the prophets of doom and asked his community members not to be cowed down by these gun tottering youth who are enemies of humanity. He even did not favour the migration of Pandits and through his articles published in various news papers and weeklies of Kashmir he advised the community not to leave their ancestral land which they have nurtured for thousands of years, said speakers in their messages.
They said sensing that Premi who was also a freedom fighter and great admirer of the renowned progressive poet, Ghulam Ahmed Mehjoor, the terrorists not only silenced his voice once for all but also of his son, Virender Koul who objected the kidnapping of his father and terrorists took him along with and next day they threw their bodies on road side after torturing them for whole night. The speakers said the sacrifices of Premi and other thousands of martyrs including that of security forces will not go waste and glorious days will again return to Valley of Kashmir.
