JAMMU, Mar 23: Glowing tributes were paid to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan on his 124th birth anniversary here  today.
In this connection a grand function was organized by Mahajan Sabha  Trikuta Nagar, Gandhi Nagar and Channi Himmat at Mehar Chand Mahajan Park Gandhi Nagar in which Minister of Housing, Horticulture, Culture and Youth, Services & Sports, Raman Bhalla and NC provincial president and MLC Davender Rana were the chief guests.
The function was presided over by Dina Nath Mahajan, president, Akhil Bharatiya Mahajan Shiromani Sabha (Delhi). Naresh Gupta, Subash Gupta (MLCs), T R Gupta, Jugal Mahajan, Bal Krishan Gupta and Yash Pal Gupta were guests of honour.
Vijay Gupta, Vinod Mahajan, Harinder Gupta and Kailash Langer were the special guests on the occasion.
The welcome address was presented by Bal Krishan Gupta while renowned Dogri singer, Jeevan Sharma enthralled the audience with his popular Dogri songs.
Paying tributes to Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan, Mr Bhalla said that this great man is role model for us and he will always be remembered by the people for his contributions to society and nation as a whole.
He said Mehar Chand Mahajan had played a pivotal role in accession of the State with India and entire State feels proud of him.
He said following the path of Mr Mahajan the society has to take steps to do away with social evils like female feticides etc.
Bhalla also highlighted the welfare projects undertaken and completed by the Coalition Government so far. In this regard he gave example of fourth bridge on river Tawi, fly over from Bikram Chowk and parks in Gandhi Nagar and other areas. Opening of administrative units, increasing of medical seats, construction of six lane road to Gangyal, two hospitals at the cost of Rs 100 crore each at Gandhi Nagar and Gangyal, creation of 639 administrative units etc were the major achievements of the Government, he said.
He said efforts will be made to extend the Fly over up to Satwari besides settling other demands. He announced that revolutionary steps will be taken after the Model Code of Conduct is over in the State.
Davinder Rana remarked Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan as an intellectual par excellence and recalled his contributions to the State as a member of Redelife Commission by providing connectivity link to the State with rest of the country through Gurdaspur during partition of 1947.
Dina Nath Mahajan said that Justice Mehar Chand Mahajan and Lala Hans Raj Mahajan were two Mahajan jewels in the State. He highlighted their contribution to the society and made an appeal to the people to make liberal donations to the Sabha and work for eradication of social evils from the society.
Jugal Mahajan, T R Gupta, Yash Paul Gupta also paid tributes to Lala Hans Raj Mahajan.
On the occasion Gold medals were presented to Dina Nath Mahajan, Anil Gupta, president JKDF, Narinder Gupta, Parveen Gupta, Rakesh Kumar Mahajan and S P Langer for their services to society. Besides luminaries of community were presented Mahajan Gourav Award while the students of the community who qualified KAS, Chartered Accountancy examinations and performed marriage with out dowry were felicitated.
Those who were presented Mahajan Gaurav Awards included Dr Romesh Gupta, Medical Superintendent, Gandhi Nagar Hospital, Satish Gupta, Drug Controller, J&K, Rajesh Gupta, Kulbushan Gupta (both industrialists), Ajay Gupta, Rajesh Gupta, ex president Jammu Fruit Association, Narwal, Parveen Gupta, president Jammu Fruit Association, Rajesh Kumar Gupta leading businessman, Rajesh Gupta, Industrialist, Ashok Gupta and Romesh Gupta leading businessmen,  Ashok Mahajan proprietor Krishana Digtal Colour Lab, Vijay Gupta, chairman Jammu Province Tent Services Association, Dr Sudhir Mahajan Director Samooh Theatre and Ravi Rohmetra social worker and freelancer.
Besides P C Gupta, Raman Mahajan, Ravi Gupta, Romesh Gupta, Raj Paul Gupta, Dr R K Gupta and Dr Ankur Gupta were also felicitated for rendering their services to Marriage Bureau Gandhi Nagar. The media representatives were also felicitated during the function.
In addition to this Akashi Gupta and Akanksha Kalsotra were felicitated for qualifying KAS while Krishan P Gupta,  Aakash Mahajan and Abhishekh Mahajan, all chartered accountants were felicitated. Anshu Mahajan & Dr Ashima Mahajan, Er Sahil Gupta and Twinkle Gupta, Vinayak Mahajan & Tisha Mahajan were felicitated for performing dowry less marriages.
