JAMMU, June 23: Glowing tributes were paid to founder president of Bharatiya Jan Sangh (BJS), Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee on his 64th Martyrdom Day across the Jammu region today.
In this connection seminars, public functions and prayer meetings were held to recall the sacrifices of this great leader and pay tributes to him by BJP and its sister organizations.
A seminar was organized by Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee Foundation, New Delhi at Jammu Convention Centre in which the RSS Sah Sarkarivah, Krishan Gopal, Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh and national vice president BJP Shyam Jaju were the main speakers.
Terming Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee a great patriot, RSS Sah Sarkarivah, Krishan Gopal said he was committed to nation and when during the unfortunate partition of the country there was a demand that Bengal and Assam be handed over to Pakistan, he along with Gopinath Badbole strongly resisted  the same. The both leaders went to Mahatma Gandhi and showed their concern about it.
Dr Mookerjee travelled every district of Bengal to launch the movement and saved the West Bengal from being handed over to Pakistan. Likewise when he came to know that there is problem in J&K, he visited here and first met the Praja Parishad leader Prem Nath Dogra whom he found an honest person and decided to support him.
He entered the State defying the permit system and was jailed under a conspiracy in which besides the then rulers of the State, the then Union Government was also involved, Krishan Gopal said, adding, he (Mookerjee) was kept in jail for 40 days just for breaking the permit system which was not such a serious crime.
RSS leader while holding the then Central Government also responsible said that the then Prime Minister Pt. Jawahar Lal Nehru wrote a letter that the investigation be held who is paying funds to Mookerjee for launching the Andolan.
He said Mookerjee gave a great sacrifice for unifying the nation. He said his death was a mystery which has not been solved till date. His mother had written a letter to then President as she wanted to know the cause of his son’s death but till date no body replied the same, he added.
Maintaining that J&K is no problem but it is the problem in the thinking of some people within Kashmir and accused the Nehru for the same. There was no problem for 550 other states who merged with India while recalling the role of Sardar Patel the then Home Minister of the country. But Patel was not allowed to interfere in J&K affairs due to personnel friendship of Nehru with the State leadership.
Krishan Gopal said the then Maharaja Hari Singh had agreed the accession of J&K with India and the Lord Mount Betan had also given his consent then how the problem surfaced is a question. It was the only personnel egos which led to the problem, he added.
He termed the incorporation of 35 (A) Article in the Indian Constitution also a conspiracy. This Article did not come through the Legislation of Parliament but through Cabinet. This Article is a betrayal with the 125 crore people of this nation as well as the people of J&K, he added.
He said when Dr Ambedkar objected incorporation of Article 370, Nehru said it will be eroded by and by and this Article 370 is the reason that many Central laws are not getting entry in the State in the same manner and fashion. He quoted Panchayti Raj Act, RTI Act, Reservation to OBCs etc are glaring example of injustice being meted to the people due to Article 370.
He said J&K, Gilgit-Baltistan, is a strategic area. The Silk route was passing from this area and at that time India contributed 30 percent to world economy. But this entire area is in problem and we have to look into this. There is the problem of refugees from West Pakistan, PoJK, Kashmiri refugees and their problems were not considered by successive governments. But now the situation is in a decisive phase as time has changed and a small political party emerged as a largest party in the world.
Earlier in his address Anirban Ganguly president of the Foundation said that formation of West Bengal, Jana Sangh and eradication of permit system in J&K would have not been there had Dr Mookerjee not been existed.
He said the Jana Sangh has become the alternate political party in the country and this is the greatest contribution of late leader. It was with his dedication and sacrifices that India’s unity and integrity has been intact, he added.
Shyam Jaju said that presently Kashmir is not the problem but it is the problem within Kashmir. He said nationalism has never been defeated in Kashmir nor it will be as there is patriotic Government in the country. He said out of 22 districts problem in Kashmir is confined to five districts only. The Kashmir is not limited to J&K only but entire nation is concerned about it, he added.
Sat Sharma, State president BJP and Dr Narinder Singh general secretary of the Party also paid glowing tributes to late Jan Sangh leader. The stage was conducted by Ajay Bharti MLC.

Kashmir is core of Indian nationhood and the communal division of India in 1947 was part of the design to have a foot hold for imperialists in their cold war against Soviet Block. But this has brought great sufferings for the people of both Pakistan and India, although they were of same blood and common culture.

Dr. Mookerjee had died in mysterious circumstances during his detention in Srinagar in 1953 agitation for removal of all barriers between this State and rest of India.

He supported Praja Parishad agitation sensing the wrong policies being pursued by Jawahar Lal Nehru and parochial actions of his friends in Kashmir dubbing patriotic voices as communal.
