JAMMU, Sept 22: Glowing tributes were paid to Jawans and officers of Indian Army who laid down their lives by exhibiting tremendous valour to defeat the designs of Pakistan during 1965 Indo-Pak war on its Golden jubilee anniversary by the army at different places today.
On the occasion of 50th Anniversary of 1965 War, a wreath laying ceremony was organised at Dah War Memorial at Palampur, today to pay tributes to the Martyrs of the 1965 War.
1965 War was fought between India and Pakistan after Pakistan sent its troops into Jammu and Kashmir. Intense war was fought between two countries from August 5 to September 21,1965.
The ceasefire was declared between the two sides on September 22, 1965. There were large number of casualties on both sides.
General Officer Commanding, DAH Division along with the Veterans paid tribute to the Martyrs of 1965 War on the occasion on behalf of DAH Division. Wreath laying ceremony was also attended by large number of school children of Kendriya Vidyalaya, Palampur.
A presentation on 1965 War was also shown at Vikram Batra Auditorium to commemorate the 1965 War and remember the sacrifice made by the valiant heroes of the Indian Army to safeguard their motherland.
On the occasion of Golden Jubilee of the Indo-Pak War, Lieutenant General RR Nimbhorkar, General Officer Commanding, White Knight Corps addressed all ranks of Nagrota Garrison in a Sainik Sammelan at Usman Auditorium. In his address the General Officer highlighted the indomitable sprit and sacrifices of Brave Soldiers who laid down their lives for the country while fighting, he exhorted all ranks reiterating the traditions of valour and courage. Post address to all ranks of Nagrota Garrison, the General Officer Commanding interacted with troops over tea.
The Indo-Pak 1965 War Golden Jubilee marked the completion of 50 years of the grand victory of Indian Army over Pakistan. On this day, 22 September 1965, the ceasefire was declared between the two nations at war in which Indian stood as victor. India had an upper hand, in territorial gains, over its adversary while the ceasefire was agreed to.
To mark the 50th anniversary a series of events were conducted in the month of September, this year, in the entire White Knight Corps Zone. Car rallies, Motor Bike rallies and Cycling expeditions, Drawing and Painting competitions were organised in the schools wherein the school going children were made aware of the valiant sacrifices made by the soldiers of the Indian Army. The War Veterans and Veer Naris were also remembered and felicitated at different stations under separate organised events.
On the occasion of the Golden Jubilee Celebration of the 1965 Indo-Pak War, Rashtriya Rifles Battalion under Romeo Force, screened a movie on 1965 Indo-Pak War at Kopra, today for the students and locals of the area. The screening of movie was to generate awareness amongst the locals about the Indian Army and its commitment towards the nation.
The students were immensely motivated after seeing the portrayal of sacrifice of the soldiers and expressed their enthusiasm to join the Armed Forces to serve the nation. The programme was part of a series of activities organised by Indian Army for development and empowerment of youth in the area.
In continuation with its efforts for upliftment of local youths of the area, by providing an opportunity to showcase their talent and acquire a level of self-confidence, Rashtriya Rifles, Battalion under Delta Force organised a volleyball tournament for youth at Bhala, today.
A total of five teams participated in the above event, which included Doda Police, Saruntha, Malothi, Salipura and Pranu. The final match was played between Doda Police and Saruntha and won by Doda Police. All the teams participated with great zeal and completely mesmerized the audience, who applauded the event and requested for similar events on a larger scale in near future.
Crossed Swords Division organised a seminar on 1965 Indo-Pak war at Sangha Auditorium, Akhnoor, today, to commemorate 50 years of the victory. Delivering the keynote address, Major General Kulpreet Singh, General Officer Commanding, Crossed Swords Division remembered the martyrs of the Indo-Pak war with reverence. Recalling the victory as one against odds, the General Officer Commanding highlighted the resilience shown by the entire Armed Forces during the War. Eminent personalities consisting of senior retired officers and military historians deliberated on various facets of the war.
The Indian Army today commemorated the 1965 War Victory at OP HILL in a solemn and impressive wreath laying ceremony at War Memorial in Krishna Ghati Brigade Sector.
Wreaths were laid in homage to the martyrs of 2 DOGRA, 5 SIKH LI, 7 SIKH and 2 GARH RIF Battalions who made the supreme sacrifice at OP HILL, capturing it for posterity in a heroic battle. Paying tributes to the gallant heroes, Commander Krishna Ghati Brigade stated the Indian Army’s resolute commitment to the security of the Nation and exhorted troops present at the ceremony to always uphold the tradition of valour and sacrifice.
A film ‘Saga of Valour’ prepared by the Army was also screened on the occasion as a poignant reminder of the Battle of OP HILL.
