JAMMU, Sept 1: Glowing tribute were paid to Pt. Prem Nath Shastri, a doyen of Kashmiri culture and scholar on his 24 th death anniversary.
In this connection a function was held at Mattan in Anatnag district of South Kashmir today which was organised by Pt. Prem Nath Shastri Sanskritik Shodh Sansthan.
On the occasion, Maha Yagya was performed at Martand which started with Kalash Pooja last evening. The function was held under the chairmanship of Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, chairman of Pt Prem Nath Shastri Shodh Sansthan.
Speakers while paying tribute to this great scholar highlighted his contribution to Kashmiri Pandit society and Sanatan Dharma. They said Shastri Ji was a farsighted person who introduced reforms in the society. They while recalling his role after the mass exodus in 1989, said that he allowed reforms in the society as he never believed in linking dharma to Dogmas and some out dated and primitive customs but believed in linking Dharma and religion and Science.
They said Late Shastri was a highly respected person in the community and this was reason that the reforms introduce by him were well taken by the community.
Those who paid tribute to Late Shastri included Pt Omkar Nath Shastri, Jyotshi Bushan Lal, Avtar Krishan Shastri and Ashok Kumar Sidha, president Tirath Raj Mattan and representatives of Vijeshwar Devasthan Bijbehara.
A large number of people participated in the function. The Hawan culminated with Puranahuti which was followed by serving of Prashad to devotees.
