JAMMU, Oct 10: Chamber of Traders Federation (CTF), has strongly criticized the SROs issued by the Government with a view to give certain exemptions to the traders in the aftermath of unprecedented floods and rains in the State.
Addressing a press conference here today, president of the Federation Yash Paul Gupta pointed out that Govt’s notification of October 4, 2014 directs that the last date for filing of returns for the second quarter 1014-15 and revised returns for the first quarter of the same year by the dealers whose record has been lost due to floods shall now be January 31, 2015. Mr Gupta said this order which does not involve any financial implication and is about the extension of the date of filing of returns should be applicable to all and not only to the traders whose records have been lost.
The Federation chief said the Government must understand that all the traders and dealers are linked in a chain in the business activity. If some traders suffer directly, others suffer indirectly. Payments are withheld, reconciliation of accounts become difficult and various other complications arise. The Government must have an open broad mind while giving concessions. He said the CTF demands that this order should apply to all the traders irrespective of whether they have lost their record or not.
Mr Gupta said in the same manner, the provisions of SROs should also be applicable to all the traders because any provision made for a section of the people creates unnecessary doubts in the minds of the people and opens the gates of discrimination and mal-practices. This will ensure transparency and remove all the doubts of the traders. He said any calamity of this nature affects all the traders directly or indirectly and the Government should not put any mandatory conditions for availing the benefits.
