UDHAMPUR, June 8: Panic gripped the area after a bear attacked a minor girl at village Panjjar in Panchari block, here today .
The victim, identified as Shakuntala Devi (16), daughter of Gayan Chand of Panjjar, was working in her farm when the wild bear attacked her. Hearing screams of the victim, some villagers came to her rescue after which the bear fled towards forest area.
Later the injured was shifted to District Hospital Udhampur and her condition was stated to be stable.
Locals said that the matter has been brought into the notice of Police and Wildlife Department officials. Fearing threat to the lives of their cattle, the villagers have appealed the Wildlife Conservation Department officials and district administration to capture the bear or take appropriate action to evict it towards forest area.
