SAMBA, Nov 12: An eight year old girl was crushed to death after she was run over by a truck at Jakh, 20 kms from here last night.
The victim has been identified as Lakshmi Sharma (8), daughter of Bharat Rattan, resident of Jakh village in Samba district.
According to police spokesperson, the girl had gone to market with her grandmother. While crossing the road, she was crushed by a speeding truck, which was going towards Jammu. The girl was rushed to Government Medical College (GMC) and Hospital, Jammu, where she succumbed to her injuries.
However the truck driver fled from the spot leaving his vehicle behind.
The police have registered a case under the relevant sections and the vehicle has been impounded.
