JAMMU, Oct 21: The Munsiff Mendhar today handed over a girl on ‘supardnama’ to the Bar President Mendhar after she told the court that she had voluntarily married an Army jawan but her parents wanted to solemnize her marriage to another boy.
Police had recovered the girl, a local resident of Sangiot, Mendhar, from Karnataka, where the Army jawan, identified as Madhu had been shifted after his affair with the Mendhar girl, where the jawan had earlier been posted. The jawan has subsequently been transferred to Assam.
SSP Poonch Shamsheer Hussain said Mendhar police brought the 17 years old girl from Karnataka and restored her to family after medical examination.
Later, she was kept in Nari Niketan as she claimed that she had married the Army jawan but her parents wanted her to marry to another boy.
The girl was produced before Munsiff Mendhar this morning. Before her production in the court, the family members tried to snatch the girl from police but the cops managed to foil the attempt and produced her in the court.
The girl told the court that she had married the Army jawan voluntarily and won’t go to her family, which wanted him to solemnize second marriage.
The court then handed over the girl to the Bar president Mendhar on `supardnama’.
The people held a protest in Mendhar demanding custody of the girl as they were opposing her marriage to the Army jawan, the SSP said, adding the law and order has been restored in Mendhar with the presence of SP Amit Bhasin and SHO Bishnesh Kumar.
