Girl among two arrested for extortion

JAMMU, Jan 14: Gandhi Nagar police arrested two girls including a bogus advocate for extorting money from innocent persons by threatening to implicate them in false cases.
As per police sources, a complaint was lodged by a 50-year-old person identified as Israr Mohammad stating that while travelling in mini-bus, a girl in boyish outlook impersonating as young student sat beside him on the seat and the other girl sat on backseat.
“After some distance, the boyish outlook girl waived her hand on his face, which he stopped. At the instance, the girl sitting on the backseat impersonating as advocate threatened him to the extent that he will be booked in police station if he failed to meet their needs. They took away identity card, cash and other documents including cell phone, but returned the sim-card”, the complainant added.
“I started receiving calls from the mobile numbers of girls, threatening me of dire consequences if I will not pay them Rs 20,000. I paid the amount to them. After some days the girls again started calling me and demanded Rs 30,000 threatening me of endangering my job, implicating me in some false case and malign my reputation. I was trapped in such a fear and this time also I gave money to the girls”, he added.
The girls did not stopped such practice and again demanded more money from me and finally after mustering courage, Israr Mohammad lodged a complaint against the girls including one impersonating as advocate for extorting money from him after threatening him to implicate him in false cases.
Acting over the complaint, a case under relevant Sections of law was registered at Gandhi Nagar police station and investigation started.
On specific information, a team from Gandhi Nagar police station arrested the two girls including a bogus advocate and recovered the extorted money from their possession.
Further investigation is going on, while the involvement of accused girls in some other cases cannot be ruled out at this stage.
Police team from Gandhi Nagar police station led by SHO Inspector Bishnesh Kumar and SI Kirti Sharma made the arrest under the supervision of SDPO South Sachin Gupta, SP South Shazaad Salaria and SSP Jammu Uttam Chand.
