Get ration but with a printed receipt

To promote accountability of its own nature in terms of weight, cost and item, a ration card holder is now entitled to get a printed receipt of what one got, how much and at what price. While this exercise rightly started, though belatedly, by the Department of Food, Civil Supplies and Consumer Affairs is in recognition of the rights of a consumer, at the same time complaints of overcharging or under weighing would be curbed to a larger extent. It would have been better in case a brief description of the items available in stock too was displayed each day outside the shop/depot or any sale centre to pre-empt any attempt to ”hide” any part of stocks of ration for selling the same over a premium to the disadvantage of a common consumer.
However, the step taken in giving a printed receipt, though otherwise a consumer being entitled to it in ordinary course, must, however, be enforced strictly. Again, a notice in local vernacular must be exhibited in the shop/depot prominently that a consumer must insist on a printed receipt of one’s ration purchased and any reluctance from the shop keeper or the in-charge of a ration depot was to be reported on the official telephone number. That would make both the consumers as well as the ration vendors conscious of their rights and duties respectively.
