JAMMU, Aug 22: Under Gender Sensitization Workshop Series 2023-24, Centre for Women’s Studies (CWS) today organized the 1st workshop in collaboration with Department of Remote Sensing & GIS for their scholars and PG students.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, Associate Professor, Department of Sociology, JU was resource person. The workshop was planned under the guidance of Prof. Vishav Raksha, Director, Centre for Women’s Studies.
Dr. Hema Gandotra, the key resource person for the workshop spoke about the concept of gender and how it is seen and perceived in our day-to-day life.
She engaged the students in different activities wherein she explained how gendering take place and stereotypical notions are constructed.
Prof. A.S Jasrotia, Head, Department of Remote Sensing & GIS spoke about the importance of this workshop and shared his personal experiences and stressed on the need for mutual respect irrespective of gender.
Prof. Vishav Raksha in her closing remarks highlighted the working of the Centre and appreciated the Department for accepting and acknowledging the importance of this workshop.
The participants raised many queries on issues like equality, gender neutrality, gender identity, gender stereotypes etc and were answered by the resource person and Director, CWS.
The workshop was conducted and coordinated by Dr. Saranjit Kaur and vote of thanks was presented by Kunzang Angmo, both faculty members, Centre for Women’s Studies.
Dr. Ajay K Taloor, faculty Department of Remote Sensing and GIS coordinated and looked after the digital modalities of the workshop.
