UDHAMPUR, Apr 3: The Northern Command Army Commander Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, today laid a wreath at the ‘Infantry War Memorial’, Mhow and paid special homage to the valiant Infantry soldiers who have sacrified their lives for the honour and safety of the nation.
The Infantry War Memorial was dedicated to the Infantry Soldiers on July 19,1996. The five bronze statues and the National flag in the memorial depict the multi ethnic composition of the Army and the spirit of triumph over the adversary.
Lt Gen Sanjiv Chachra, himself is an Infantry Officer who has an illustrious military career spanning over 40 years. He has a wide operational experience of having served in High Altitude and Counter Insurgency areas along the North & North East borders. He commanded an Inf Battalion in a counter insurgency environment where he was awarded the Vishisht Seva Medal (VSM). During his command of a frontline Mountain Division deployed along the Northern Borders, the General officer was awarded the Ati Vishisht Seva Medal for his exceptional service in maintaining peace and tranquility along the border.
The General officer also visited the Infanty School which is the Alma Mater of Infantry, the largest fighting arm of the Indian Army which is popularly called the “Queen of the Battle”. The Army Commander delivered a talk on the “Security Perspective in J&K” to the prestigious Senior Command and Higher Command course officers at the Army War College which is the prime institute of officer training of the Indian Army.
