POONCH, June 5: The people from general category took out a massive candle light protest march in the city demanding ‘no reservation in promotions’ here last evening.
The border city of Poonch witnessed an unprecedented candle light protest march on the issue of “no reservation in promotions”, with thousands of members of general category irrespective of caste, creed, colour and religious affiliations from all parts of Poonch marching from Parade Ground to Poonch Fort. After passing through main market under the banner of Joint Action Commitee (General category) led by Er Salim Bandey, Convenor Poonch district, the rally culminated near Fort building complex.
Joint Action Committee made general category people aware of the ill conceived actions of certain MLAs and particularly, Ringzin Zora who has in connivance with support of these MLAs contemplated to introduce Private Members Bill in the Legislative Assembly on the issue of reservation in promotions. They said the action of these MLAs speaks volume of the brewing hatred among them against General category masses and they have breached the oath of constitution taken by them while assuming the charge. They have built an unholy consortium on the basis of caste.
Speaking on the occasion Salim Bandey, convenor JAC expressed serious concern and displeasure over the conduct of these MLAs who have been voted to power by all category people. But now their approach has become partisan as is evident from the fact that they are trying to bring amendments to overrule the justice delivered by Judicial system after thorough scrutiny of rules/ merits of case in vogue.
After 11 years of relentless struggle High Court quashed the reservation in promotion rules and held them unconstitutional. It is pertinent to mention here that in (Indira Sawhney vs Union of India), Supreme Court had declared the reservation in promotions as unconstitutional. However successive Governments for vote bank politics have followed appeasement policies and passed amendments and put the general category masses on backburner.
Advocate Sanjay Raina, president Peoples Forum highlighted that the judgment of High Court and subsequent proceedings are testimony of the fact that these judgments have corrected a constitutional anomaly which was depriving general category incumbents of their constitutional right of equal opportunity of advancement of their career and represents the aspirations of 70% of the population.
Manjeet Kumar, Amreek Singh, Ajeet Singh, Vikas Sharma and others also spoke on the occasion.
