UDHAMPUR, Mar 23: Government Degree College Udhampur today launched online classes via video conferencing for students of all colleges across Jammu and Kashmir where a complete lockdown is being observed in view of COVID-19 threat.
“If students cannot come to the college, then I will take the college to them,” said Prof Nutan Kumar Resutra, while announcing start of the online classes through which students will be able to attend and teachers will be able to give lectures while remaining in the safety at their respective homes.
Dr Resutra informed that for this purpose, the college has developed a mobile app codenamed “Devika Virtual” and a new server has been deployed in the college codenamed “Arjun”. He applauded the efforts of the Government at both national and local levels as well as the Medical fraternity in combating the threat posed by COVID-19, and said, “It is the duty of teachers to utilize the best resources available to make sure that the studies of the students do not suffer, and it is duty to this sentiment which has motivated faculty members of the college to work round the clock to develop this platform.”
The Devika Virtual App, developed by IQAC, GDC Udhampur is easy to use, so that teachers can start a virtual classroom session with a single click. The app has been integrated with the Devika Cloud platform, and Virtual Classroom sessions can be added to any course on the portal. The app has been specially designed to offer good connectivity experience on 2G internet speed.
Both services – The Devika Virtual App as well as the Devika Cloud Platform have been opened to students of all colleges. Students can log on to https:// devikacloud.in and download course material for both Arts as well as Science streams for all semesters. Online classes will be conducted according to schedule uploaded to the aforementioned portal. Students of all colleges, and from anywhere in the world can join the virtual classrooms.
Dr Resutra said that other colleges and schools are welcome to use GDC Udhampur’s Online Learning and Video Conferencing System, and the college will help them set up similar technology infrastructure to enable them to engage with their students.
