GDC Udhampur holds Alumni Meet; Malik inaugurates infra

DHAMPUR, Dec 24: Government Degree College (GDC) Udhampur organized its annual Alumni Meet “Alumni Reunion” on the eve of Christmas in College premises, here today.
Abdul Gani Malik, Minister for Higher Education was the chief guest on the occasion, while Balwant Singh Mankotia, MLA Udhampur, who also happens to be the president of the Alumni Club was the guest of honour.
Many newly constructed and renovated buildings of the College were also inaugurated by the chief guest in presence of Mankotia and Principal of the College Dr Nutan Kumar Resutra.
These newly constructed infrastructure included Information Cell, Biotechnology Laboratory, APJ Abdul Kalam Science Block and Chemistry Laboratory which has been renovated under Star College Scheme.
The Minister also laid the foundation stone of Automated Teller Machine (ATM) of J&K Bank in the Campus.
A book of composed Dogri songs “Baakhan” authored by Prof Tara Nath titled ” Sur Lehri” was also released on this occasion. The book was reviewed by Prof Desh Bandhu, Parkash Premi and Surjeet Singh Hosh, Dogri authors of repute from Udhampur.
In his the chief guest said infrastructure is a pre-requisite for the growth of any educational institution. Balwant Singh Mankotia also spoke on the occasion.
Earlier, the program began with lighting the Ceremonial lamp by the dignitaries. Principal of the College Dr Nutan Kumar Resutra in his welcome address highlighted the major achievements.
Scholarship DST of Rs.18000, financial aid of Rs.13000 was distributed among 6 students and mementoes among participants of Thal Sena Camp, NSS workshop winners, Inter-University Volleyball players and certificates to the participants of the cultural program in the International Conference. An appointment order to Kamlesh Kumari W/o Late Nek Ram, an employee of the college, who has been employed on compassionate grounds was also given by the chief guest.
Prof Sudhir Singh and Ms Pooja Mahajan compered the program. Dr SK Magotra presented the vote of thanks.
