KATHUA, June 7: Department of Environmental Sciences of Government Degree College (GDC) Kathua, Ravi Eco Club and Krishi Vigyan Kendra (KVK) Kathua jointly organized a one-day workshop on the topic “Let’s Protect ‘Only One Earth’ by Restrategizing the Sustainable Development Goals”.
The workshop was held with the prime objective of sensitizing the students about sustainable development goals and challenges in its implementation. A total of 200 participants got themselves registered for the work shop. In the technical session, 12 participants gave presentations on the topic. The students elaborately expressed their views on the topic.
Vivek Modi, DFO Kathua, gave a plenary lecture on the role of the forest in combating climate change and sustainable development goals while Dr Vishal Mahajan (Senior Scientist and Head, KVK Kathua) also gave a thought provoking lecture on the theme of the work shop.
Prof Shveta Saroop acted as the panelist in the technical session. Dr Vishal Sharma (Scientist KVK Kathua) took active part in the panel discussion and answered all the queries of the students. Anamika Jamwal (Scientist KVK Kathua) also expressed her views on the topic.
The workshop was organized under the patronage of Prof Sumanesh Jasrotia, Principal GDC Kathua, who graced the occasion as the chief guest. He discussed that the climate change is evident and has become a global concern over the last few decades which needs to be addressed immediately.
Dr Deepshikha Sharma (Associate Professor & HoD Environmental Sciences) emphasized on the need of re-strategizing the sustainable development goals by the country to meet the challenges and to achieve the target of Agenda 2030.
The proceedings of the workshop were conducted by Prof Neeru Sharma of Department of Environmental Sciences who also coordinated the whole event. Prof Rupali Nanda and Prof Nisha Bhagat from Department of Botany contributed in the successful conduct of the event.
The faculty members present on the occasion were Prof Romilla Gularia, Prof Raj Kiran, Prof Jasvinder Singh, Prof Rakesh Jasrotia, Prof Ritu Bhagat, Dr Anupama, Dr Rachna, Dr Ambica, Dr Chetna Gupta, Dr Upasana Andotra and Dr Jogbinder Singh.
