JAMMU, Aug 31: General Category People’s Front of India (GCPFI) has called for the total abolition of reservations and the implementation of Supreme Court verdicts related to reservations.
The issue was discussed threadbare in meeting of the core group of the GCPFI held today under the chairmanship of Raj Kumar Banathia, Chairman of the Front. During the meeting, Prof Yash Paul Sanson (president of the Front) strongly criticized the Government, accusing it of promoting caste divisions rather than eliminating them. He highlighted the growing anger among the general category, which includes Hindus, Sikhs, Muslims, and others, over the continuation of reservations without any review.
Prof Sanson argued that the mood of the masses is turning against both the Congress and BJP, as these parties have disregarded the rights of the general category. He emphasized that people would no longer vote for parties that support reservations, quotas, special privileges, and concessions, which have led to the deprivation, neglect, and marginalization of the majority.
Som Nath Sharma (general secretary of the Front), made a passionate appeal to the Government to end reservations and eliminate the discrimination, partiality, and prejudicial treatment meted out to the general category.
VK Sharma (vice president of the Front), highlighted the recent Supreme Court verdict on reservations, including the exclusion of the creamy layer and the provisions for quotas within quotas in SCs/STs reservations.
Prominent members of the Front, including VK Sharma, Bhushan Pargal (both vice presidents), Deepak Kumar Khajuria, Ravi Sawhney (both secretaries), Jagdish Dogra (advisor), Dr Bansi Lal, Kewal Krishan Sharma, Surinder Kumar, and Gopal Dass Verma, also expressed similar views, strongly opposing the current reservation system and advocating for the rights of the general category.
