GCET, GDC organise symposium on great Indian Mathematicians

JAMMU/ THANNAMANDI, Dec 22: Department of Mathematics, GCET Jammu, and Department of Mathematics, Government Degree College ThannaMandi celebrated National Mathematics Day with full fervour and gaiety at their respective colleges.
The function of Department of Mathematics, GCET Jammu started with welcome address by Dr Bhopinder Singh, Professor & Head, Department of Mathematics. He apprised the students about great works and the manner in which the Mathematicians contributed without facility of modern avenues.
Ms Druvika Pandita of B.E 3rd Semester was adjudged Ist for her paper on the life history of Brahm Gupta, whereas Ms Mehak Gupta of B.E. 5th Semester and Ms Awantika Gupta of B.E. 1st Semesters got 2nd & 3rd Prizes respectively on the works of S Ramanujan   and P C Mahavalis.
Meanwhile, similar function was observed at a seminar in the memory of world great mathematicians. Eight student of the college namely Ms Sehar Shakeel Raina, Mr Zulfqar Ali, Tahir Rashid, Ms Mehvish Shakoor, Ms Sadia Anjam, Ms Kulsoom Akhter, Jameel Ahmed and Ms Zahida Latief and participated in the seminar.
First four speakers made power point presentations and rest four made paper reading presentations. The mathematicians like Hazrat Ali, Araya Bhata, Shakuntala Devi, Alkhwarazmi,Newton, Pythagorass, etc were discussed in the presentations.
Principal of the College Dr. Mushtaq Ahmed Lone appreciated the efforts of the Department of Mathematics for organising the function.
