GBC stages protest outside Raj Bhawan

JAMMU, Mar 9: The Jammu and Kashmir Gujjar Bakerwal Conference staged a massive protest dharna in front of Governor’s House here today.
The demonstrators were raising slogans in favour of their demands and condemning the successive State and Central Govts for ignoring the Gujjars and Bakerwals of the State in every sphere of life. The senior leaders of the conference including its State president, general secretary, senior vice president, district presidents and general secretaries from all over the State also sat on Dharna. They included Haji Mohd Yaqoob, Anwar Chowdhary Haji Saif Ali, Haji Noor Mohd Mehar, Amir-ud-Din Kassana, Ch. Murad Ali, Ch. Mohd Iqbal Sarpanch, Maulana Shah Mohd Chowdhary and a number of senior leaders of the conference.
The main demands raised by the Gujjar Bakerwal Conference members on this occasion included political reservation for Gujjars and Bakerwals. A separate Gujjar regiment in the Army be raised and the youth of the community be provided an opportunity to serve the nation, Gojri language be included in the eighth schedule of Constitution of India, Gojri news bulletin be started from A.I.R. and Doordarshan New Delhi and Jammu and Srinagar stations.
The funds provided by the Union Government for the development of the Gujjar Bakerwals (ST) communities be spent exclusively on them and the practice of misusing this money be stopped forthwith. The Gujjars and Bakerwals be given representation in proportion to their total population in the service sector, political institutions like the Parliament and State Legislature, Panchayats district boards and municipalities, professional and technical institutions and recruitment agencies.
