Garbage town

Sir,
This has reference to the article ‘Rajouri turns into a garbage town’ DE Mar 19, 2017.
The article reflects our negligence and apathetic attitude towards our environment. With rapid urbanization and modern lifestyle, we are slowly turning our beautiful towns into slums. Wherever we go, we see that the beautiful small towns which could have been converted into places of attraction for tourists, turning into garbage dumping sites. Mountains of garbage are seen here and there, with animals foraging for food in them day in and day out. The garbage dumps stink during course of time emitting obnoxious smell and vitiating atmosphere.
Mere Governments can’t tackle this problem. The working of Government machinery is beset with numerous problems and interests. It is the duty of the people to come forward on this issue. The civil society can take initiatives in this matter, if people have to live in a clean environment. Our religious places like temples, mosques, churches and gurudwaras can be ideal platforms for launching cleanliness drives in respective areas. Cleanliness has been aptly termed as Godliness.
Yours etc…
