JAMMU: Dominated by elite class, the Ward Number 25, Upper Rehari Colony area is facing the problems of garbage disposal, poor lanes and drains, poorly maintained public-park, poor street lights etc.
Even the sewerage network has left some pockets uncovered in this Ward.
Dev Raj-a morning walker at Master Devi Chand Park said, the park is not daily cleaned.
“It seems there is even no gardener to maintain the park as the grass grows here and no one comes to dress it properly,” he further said.
He also said that equipments installed in the park to take physical exercise are broken and none is there to take care of an important public infrastructure.
Kanta, a housewife who daily visits a temple in the locality in wee hours to pay obeisance, said that every day she has to face herds of stray dogs in the street which create a fearful scene as at that time there is very little public movement in the streets and she often has to change her way to reach the temple.
Big garbage dumps-near Christian cemetery, near a popular eat-point and at Sarwal Hospital in the Ward gives a shabby and dirty look to the Ward and there is dirty smell and flies at all these places.
Even inside the Ward one can easily spot garbage packed in poly bags thrown on streets or in drains blocking them.
Now, the people of this Ward have elected Arun Khanna as their Corporator and they expect that all the problems of the Ward will no more be there.
In an exclusive interaction with EXCELSIOR, Arun Khanna said that covering the uncovered pockets of his Ward under sewerage network will be his priority.
He also said that soon the problems of cleanliness, lanes, drains and street lights will also be solved.
“Master Devi Chand Park will be properly developed on modern lines and as per the demands of Park Committee,” he said making an appeal to the people of his Ward to cooperate him.
“I will make teams of volunteers to aware the public to stop the use of poly bags and dispose the garbage at proper places,” he maintained.
On stray dogs problem he said that veterinary doctors will be consulted for some solution in this case.
The Corporator further said that the issue of blocked drains will be checked on daily base as any delay here will lead to the spread of litter on streets and roads thereby breeding mosquitoes apart from giving foul smell and bad look to the locality.
When asked about installing garbage containers in the Ward, he said that no one will be happy to see such containers outside their home and he voiced for door to door garbage collection.
Khanna has good relations with other Corporators of Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) including those who are not from his party and are independents.
When asked that the JMC Corporators lack vision and can’t think beyond cleanliness, he said, soon he along with other Corporators will strongly project the demand of shifting the management of PDD, PHE, primary health and education to JMC as a Corporator can easily check functioning of a government school and public hospital or dispensary in his area.
On garbage dump at the backyard of Sarwal Hospital and the garbage container at its (Hospital) other side near its gate, Khanna said that that the dump will be cleared soon as hospital authorities have allegedly never paid any heed towards it since years.
As the cases of dengue are on increase in the city, the Corporator voiced for getting fog sprayed in the Ward so that the mosquitoes may get killed and the public is safeguarded from the deadly dengue.
He also said that his Ward will soon be a no problem Ward in Jammu.
Arun Khanna is a second time BJP Corporator in Ward Number-25 and this time he won with a margin of 694 after defeating Satish Gupta-an independent candidate who got 470 votes against 1164 polled to Khanna.
Khanna runs a catering business and his wife Rekha Khanna is a BSNL employee while his son Naman Khanna is a bank officer and daughter Urvi Khanna is married in Delhi.
