MENDHAR, July 23: While the infection of Corona Virus is spreading rapidly and health authorities are issuing regular advisories, but in the township of Mendhar, a terrible picture has been surfaced just at the steel bridge where people and even local civic authorities are dumping garbage in the water body .
Under the nose of the Sub Divisional Administration and along the road which is often used by the VIPs, this glaring violation has remained unnoticed. This spot has become a chronic problem of creating health hazards and a big source of air and water pollution.
The people from Mendhar town frequently raised this issue before the local administration but perhaps no body showed any interest to stem out this environmental and health related issue. They pointed out that not only the local people but shopkeepers and the RDD/ Panchayat authorities are also dumping garbage here in the Nallah. The dump gives foul smell and it becomes very difficult for every one passing through that area. Those residing closer to this point are worst sufferers.
A local activist Mohd Shahid claimed that he along with some other locals raised this issue before the Tehsil/ Sub Divisional Administration many times but the problem was not sorted out. Majid Nazir of the area also held local administration and RDD authorities responsible for it. The locals appealed to the SDM Mendhar and DC Poonch to intervene personally and resolve this issue of illegal garbage dumping in water body.
