JAMMU, Aug 23: Gandhi Global Family (GGF), J&K, a UN-DPI affiliated organization, in collaboration with Gandhi Peace Foundation (GPF), Jammu, under the aegis of United Nations Information Centre (UNIC), New Delhi, reviewed the progress on the promotion of United Nations 17 Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), here today.
Gandhian organizations held meeting with representatives of 17 schools of Jammu city under the chairmanship of Padmashri S P Varma, president GGF, J&K. During the meeting, progress was reviewed on various activities for the promotion of 17 different UN SDGs – No poverty; zero Hunger; Good Health and well-being; Quality Education; Gender Equality; Clean Water and Sanitation; Affordable and Clean Energy; Decent Work and Economic Growth; Industry Innovation and Infrastructure; Reduced Inequalities; Sustainable Cities and Communities; Responsible Consumption and Production; Climate Action; Life below Water; Life on Land; Peace, Justice and Strong Institutions, and Partnerships for the Goals.
Varma highlighted the agenda 2030 adopted by the world leaders in September 2015 and said that Jammu is second city after Delhi in the country to partner UN in launching campaign to promote SDGs by involving 17 schools in first phase. ”We will create one more group of another 17 schools in Jammu city on the pressing demand, and extend it to other parts of State at district level for transformation of society through these goals ”, he added.
Dr Seema Rohmetra, Co-ordinator Gandhi Peace Foundation, stressed that the Gandhian philosophy in general and Gandhian model of education in particular can go a long way in guiding the schools the tactics and mechanisms in which the various goals can be introduced in the school curricula at different levels. She admired 17 schools including Alexander School, GD Goenka, Tiny Tots, Shangrila Public, Jammu Sanskriti, Jodhamal Public, JK Montessori, Lawrence public, Shiksha Niketan, Doon International , Oriental Academy, ST Tarapuri, JK Public, Model Academy, Heritage School, KC Public School, KC International, to undertake this campaign ahead.
Rana Ravinder Singh, core member GPF, made a detailed presentation wherein he talked about the different ways in which the schools can contribute towards the implementation of these SDGs.
Amarendra Mishra, Principal KC Public School, Dr Sapna K Sangra, Sonia Thakur, Palvi Gautom from Lawrence Priy Singh, Manish Joshi, Balbir Singh Jamwal, Dr Monika Narang, Gopal Sharma, Dr Ashaq Malik, Rajneesh Khajuria, Menakshi Jamwal, Bimla Slathia, Manprret Kaur, Prabha Slathia, Gautom Sharma, Priya Bhat, Puneet Kaur, Lakshmi Jasrotia, Ryan, Avneet Kour, Simranjeet, Jasmeet Kour, Ritu Dhar, Shafali, Wangnoo, Rajesh Khana, Sudesh Rana, Monika Gajiwala, Sanjay Pandey and Nivedita Sharma also spoke on the occasion.
