JAMMU, Apr 8: National Conference Member, Dr Shehnaz Ganai staged walk out twice from the Legislative Council to lodge her protest today.
During Question Hour the NC member stood up from the seat and lodged her protest with the acting Chairman of the Legislative Council Jehangir Mir, alleging that there were only two women members in the House. For the last many days, not even her single question has been listed in the list. She termed it as discrimination against the women member.
Dr Ganai maintained that she had given several questions but the same are not being listed. It seems to be a gender bias and the voice of women members is being suppressed. She staged walk out from the House.
The NC Member against staged walk out after she was not allowed to raise her point by the acting Chairman of the Council. The discussion under Rule 60 A was going on in the House and several members spoke on the issue related to damages caused due to floods and rains. Minister for Revenue Javed Mustafa was about to reply.
Agitated over the attitude of Acting Chairman, who snubbed the members earlier and later asked to resume, the NC members alleged that it was great injustice being meted out to the women members in this House. She alleged that she was snubbed and not allowed to speak while others were given ample opportunity. Describing is as unfair practice, the agitated member then staged walk out.
The Revenue Minister intervened and pleaded the Chairman to give some time to the only woman member in the House, willing to participate in the discussion. The Chairman asked the member to finish her speech in two minutes, but she walked out in protest.
