GAMC Akhnoor granted conditional permission for 2020-21 session

JAMMU, Nov 5: Ministry of Ayurveda, Yoga & Naturopathy, Unani, Siddha and Homeopathy (AYUSH) today granted conditional permission to Government Ayurvedic Medical College (GAMC), Akhnoor, Jammu to admit 63 students (including EWS) in UG course for the academic session 2020-21.
As per the communiqué of the Government of India to Principal, GAMC Akhnoor, 15 percent (i.e. 8) of the permitted intake capacity of 63 UG (BAMS) seats shall be treated as all India quota and the counseling for these seats shall be conducted by the Central Government of India and counseling for the remaining 85 % (i.e. 55) seats will be conducted by counseling authority of J&K.
“However, if any seat is not filled up in the Central counseling, the same shall be transferred to the counseling authority of the J&K UT to admit students as per their rules/reservation/policies/ norms,” the communiqué mentioned and added that out of the 63 seats, five seats have been approved for Economically Weaker Section (EWS).
As per the communiqué, to get permission for the session 2020-21, the College authorities will have to fulfilled certain requirements including minimum standard infrastructure as well as teaching and training facilities, besides all requirements of Indian Medicine Central Council Amendment regulations 2016 (for Ayurveda) and requirements under the provisions of the IMCC Act 1970, by December 31, 2020.
Meanwhile, Director ISM, Dr Mohan Singh informed that recently Govt Ayurvedic Medical College was upgraded to 60 beds from the current 50 beds. He said that 1st batch of 50 UG students was started in the College in the academic session 2017-18.
Director ISM informed that all the gaps with regard to infrastructure development at Akhnoor have been fulfilled and pending Rs 4.61 crore have been released and 90% of construction work of both college and hospital blocks has been completed. He said that water and electricity connection, starting of OPD services at Associated Hospital at Akhnoor, construction of internal roads in the premises of the College have been completed.
He further added that the gaps with respect to faculty have been filled through deployment of staff from ISM, Department and establishment of Herbal Garden in the college campus is under progress. The requisite furniture, fixture, IT equipment for smooth functioning of the college and hospital has been procured.
