SRINAGAR, Feb 1: Residents of Galender area of Pampore in south Kashmir today said they are facing extreme inconvenience as Srinagar Municipal Corporation (SMC) dumps dog carcasses in their area.
The residents said due to the smell generating from these carcasses there is a grave threat of outbreak of diseases among local populace particularly children. The SMC dumps these carcasses along Srinagar- Jammu National Highway after bringing them from Srinagar city.
“The SMC should dump them in isolation and not near residential houses. The entire area stinks and lives of people have become hell with this. The smell is so strong that even the commuters get affected,” said Younis Ahmad, a local.
Tehsildar Pampore, Muhammad Maqbool said the site for dumping carcasses has been allotted to SMC few years back. “They have been dumping dogs and burying them since long,” he said, adding: “now if they are dumping openly then I will myself go on the spot and take up the matter with the concerned officials.”
