JAMMU, Mar 16: Gagan Dhamama Bajyo, a musical play based on real incidents taken from the life of freedom fighter Bhagat Singh and his contemporaries, staged at Abhinav Theatre, here today, came out as a befitting tribute to the brigade of young revolutionaries who since 1930’s having fired the imagination are the role models for generations of patriots.
The play which concluded the 5-day festival of plays organised by Sangam Theatre Group , Reasi, was written by Piyush Mishra, directed by Abhishek Bharti, highlighted immense contribution and sacrifice of Bhagat Singh and his friends including Rajguru, Sukhdev, Chandrasekhar Azad, Jatin Das, Ram Prasad Bismil, Ashfaque Ullah Khan and others in freedom struggle.
The play while focusing upon Bhagat Singh’s lofty ideals, is, in fact, a critical take on the modern Indian politico-social scenario and points to the fact that though the British rule had ended, yet another form of tyranny has begun. For the common man, only the ruler has changed but their exploitation and harassment have not ended. The play raises a question- ‘Is this India which Bhagat Singh had dreamed about?
Today’s edition of one of the magnum opus productions of Natraj Natya Kunj, exhibited subtle and well thought welcome innovations. The overall musical and movement-based production design was conspicuous for its fast pace, high-pitched dialogues mirroring the passion and fire of the young revolutionaries and towering ideals of Bhagat Singh.
The production was noticeable for creative handling of the content and aesthetic presentation. The actors’ dynamic groupings, choreographed movements, and interplay of scenes that almost alternated between Vira, Karuna and Hasya rasas, kept the audience spellbound.
The cast members who moved like well orchestrated team included Akshay Razdan, Amandeep Sharma, Abhishek Sharma, Dutt Karan Mehra, Kanav Sharma Mukesh Bakshi, Tejan Bharti, Manik Sharma, Abbas Ali Alikoo, Rakesh Dogra, Niharika Shakshi, Surbhi Balgotra, Lalit Sharma, Nitin Bahu, Akash, Hema, Sushmita, Simaran.
