G D Agrawal gets six-month extension as ITAT chief

NEW DELHI: G D Agrawal has been given a six- month extension as the president of the Income Tax Appellate Tribunal (ITAT), an official order issued today said.

The Appointments Committee of the Cabinet has approved the extension of tenure of Agrawal, vice-president, ITAT, as its president in an officiating capacity for a further period of six months with effect from August 18, 2017 or till a regular incumbent is appointed to the post, an order issued by the Department of Personnel and Training (DoPT) said.

The ITAT is a quasi-judicial institution set up in January, 1941 and it specialises in dealing with appeals under the Direct Taxes Acts.

The orders passed by the ITAT are final. An appeal lies to a high court only if a substantial question of law arises for determination. (AGENCIES)
