Funds for roads

Sir,
The decision of the Union Government to release ` 710 crore for roads in Jammu and Kashmir is welcome. The Union Cabinet released the amount under the Pradhan Mantri Gram Sadak Yojana to the State as a special one-time dispensation for the cost of land acquisition, covering compensatory afforestation, forest land, trees, private land and structures for completion of programmes under the schemes.
The amount so sanctioned if spent judiciously will change the road complextion in the State. Presently, road network particularly in rural areas is in a shambles. These roads which are considered as ‘lifetime’ are not traffic  worthy.
They have developed pot-holes and puddles. The situation worsen during rains when it becomes risky to ply on them. In absence of road connectivity, people face may hardships. They find it difficult to shift a patient from his place of residence to a hospital in a town for  seeking medical aid. The people find it quite difficult to transport goods or agriculture products in absence of roads. If roads are constructed as per bid specifications, the villagers will get terribly benefitted. Rather complexion of rural areas will change for good.
Yours etc…
